Don’t Be Fooled: Make May CyberSec Awareness Month

Cyber Security Awareness Month has occurred every October in the US for more than 20 years – less time than we’ve been in existence. In that time, if we’ve learned one thing (and we’ve picked up a few along the way) it’s that cybersecurity won’t wait half a year to be addressed. Sometimes a day is too long.

So, for this month, we’re covering the key Sprint services with which the modern SME can defend themselves against the cyber criminals – both individuals and state actors – whose business is denying you of yours. We’re all busy people and if you’d prefer to cut to the chase, and get our team to look after yours, we’re ready when you are. Want to learn more first? Let’s get straight to it.

Datto Deliver.

Datto is a major player in this sphere, and we’re closely aligned with their work. Their SIRIUS secure data protection solution spans every data repository, from servers to virtual machines, and protects client data through two-factor authentication (2FA) and, aligned with the Datto Cloud, this integrated solution creates an all-in-one backup and recovery option.

Cyber Essentials.

Cyber Essentials is an effective, Government-backed scheme that enables everyone from individuals through to SMEs and bigger enterprises to protect themselves against common cyberattacks. Sponsored by the National Cyber Security Centre, (NCSC) Cyber Essentials was created to handle most attacks, which are often very basic and carried out by unskilled individuals.

Scanning and Testing.

Vulnerability Scanning and Penetration Testing may sound closely aligned but are two very different things. Vulnerability Scanning is often delivered by automated means alone, and finds system weaknesses, while the more labour-intensive penetration (or a ‘pen’) test requires manual intervention by the pen tester. This deeper dive discovers both the weaknesses and any attempts to exploit them.

Phishing simulators.

Practice makes perfect and companies are increasingly using automation to mimic real-life attack scenarios to prepare themselves for the real thing. Many vendors are so concerned about the increasing number of attacks they offer dedicated phishing attack simulation training. Sprint offer training from a number of blue-chip partners so your SME can respond when the Big One happens.

Cyber Security Employee Training

This works well on two fronts, simultaneously. Statistically, breaches occur because of someone doing something wrong: intentionally or otherwise. While most of us know better than to click on random attachments or links, the growing sophistication of these attacks, often supported by AI, means we all need to be that bit smarter, too. Let’s get you up to speed.

Sophos Intercept X Advance EDR

Most cyber security programs combine training and technology. While we have 25 years’ worth of knowledge and experience, and in Sophos on our Partner Program we can offer best in class tech, too. Their Intercept X Advance EDR solution offers unparalleled protection, preventing advanced attacks from affecting your systems. Their powerful Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) tools enable the SME to hunt for, investigate, and respond to suspicious activity and attack indicators.

Datto Defend.

As we’ve seen, most cyberattacks hit your inbox before your systems, so having an effective barrier against spam attacks is a non-negotiable must-have. The Datto SaaS Defense tool enables SMEs to MSPs to proactively defend their IT against malware, business email compromise (BEC), and attacks that target Microsoft Exchange, OneDrive, SharePoint, and Teams.

Keeper as defender.

We’re all familiar with the advice to keep different passwords to make life more difficult for those who would hack into our stuff. But that makes life more complicated for users who must remember multiple increasingly complex passwords. It’s tempting to go with Passw0rd_123 for everything, which is where the problems start. Instead, we use Keeper, a widely-trusted password management tool. Let’s talk about keeping your passwords safe with Keeper.

Exclaimer for emails.

For SMEs, the business world is too fast moving and increasingly competitive to spend valuable time working out which are the best companies to deliver the desired level of cyber security. In that time, you could become yet another victim. Luckily, for Sprint, cybersecurity is our business, and we find providers to provide the wrap-around service – or services – you need. Exclaimer specialise in email security, uphold the highest compliance standards, and help deliver peace of mind alongside millions of emails every day.
